Today my friend and I were talking. She told me that she took this test she found in a magazine, to see if she had "Attention Deficit Disorder." She said she was relieved that she had it because now she has a definition for her short attention span (and other similar characteristics).

She said, "It's better to know you have something than not know what label to put on it." I replied, "Even if it seems like a negative image?" I wondered how many other people were relieved to know that their child had a "disorder" and now fit into a group, rather than taking the road of looking for the cause. When our grandparents were young they didn't have the name labels for half of what exists today. They had to rely on their common sense to get them by.

This common sense approach has been lost in the haystack of modern day analysis. My friend said that the popular answer to this particular disorder was to take drugs (basically turn down the signals to the brain). Over two million American children are currently on the drug-Ritalin and one in five has been diagnosed with this "disorder" according to 60 minutes and 20/20. These are most likely extremely bright and psychic children (and adults too) who are receiving input from their surroundings (seeing clearly) and not being validated for it.

If they don't have a release valve of some sort they can let the energy build up and take it out in destructive ways. This can manifest as being highly active or even not so active but having a short attention span. Many brilliant people are like this. What would have happened to Mozart or Beethoven if they were put on drugs to curtail their behavior? Where is the spirit in all of this? Is that completely ludicrous to wonder the root cause and deal with it on that level? The system is not set up for that, from modern medicine which deals with symptoms to modern psychology which deals with analysis.


It is said in the healing arts that if you heal the spirit, the spirit will heal the body. This is the path of least resistance and the easiest, but less chosen path because we are so removed from our own common sense. To label a child in their formative years can make it difficult for them to empower themselves and heal naturally whatever needs to be healed. When I was a child my mom's response to just about everything was to tell me to go outside and play.

Now today that may seem like a brush off, but actually she did the best thing for me possible. She did not interfere with my own imagination. Today this form of healing is called, well, healing, which sounds so New Age. To get in touch with your own imagination and heal yourself no matter what the problem is, would put a lot of doctors and therapists out of business, but that is another article!
