TITHING
The Spiritual Law

"Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrits!
For ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters
of the law, justice, mercy and faith; these ought ye to have done, and not to leave
the other undone."
- Matthew 23:23
If you get caught speeding, you are fined for how many miles over the speed limit
you were going. It doesn't matter if you are in a good mood or a bad mood, you will
still get a ticket. This is an example of following the "letter of the law";
what is written down on paper must be obeyed.
 There is a letter of the law
to the functions of tithing, but there is also a "spirit of the law" which
is just as important, if not more so. For without the correct spirit or attitude,
the effectiveness of tithing is sharply reduced. Tithing is not a function to be
done mechanically, apathetically, or reluctantly. As said in scripture,
"Every man according as he purposeth in his heart,
so let him give, not grudgingly, or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver."
- 2Corinthians 9:7
What is tithing? A spiritual law and principle proclaimed by the Supreme Being
to which there are two parts. First Fruits is the beginning steps on the golden road
to tithing. Take a look around you and observe all the things you own on a material
level. You might take inventory of a house, money in the bank, stocks, furniture,
vehicles, jewelry - the list can go on and on. Write down the value of all these
items as accurately as you can. You may be amazed at how many "possessions"
are on your list.
Now realize that you haven't acquired any of those items on you own. The Supreme
Being has given you everything on that list. Now you might argue, "No, my paycheck
came from the company I work for, the car was a gift, etc." Well, your company
and the person who gave you the car were simply vehicles for the Supreme Being to
bring those things into your life.
After you have totaled the amount of everything you own, take ten to thirty percent
of the accumulated value and bring it to the person/place who has revealed the law
of tithing to you. After all, you don't give your rent check to the Supermarket!
You give to the one who has opened your spiritual eyes and ears to this principle.
You have been inspired!
The second part to tithing is your spiritual and prosperity maintenance program.
After First Fruits you bring ten to thirty percent of what you receive monetarily
to the same individual or organization educating you about God's Prosperity Plan.
For example, if you gross two thousand dollars per month, ten percent (two hundred
dollars) would be tithed.
Here's another revelation for you - you are not the one who is tithing! It is
the Supreme Being using you as a channel for Himself to tithe through you. He is
like the master farmer and He is planting the seeds (tithes) so that an abundant
crop (your prosperity as a life with Him) can be brought to harvest.
You have heard that "silence is golden." It is a good practice to keep
silent about what and how much is being tithed through you. It is a personal covenant
between you and God.
"But when thou doest alms let not thy left hand
know what thy right hand doeth. That thine alms may be in secret; and thy Father,
who seeth in secret; shall reward thee openly."
- Matthew 6:3-4
Why is the medium of money used for tithing? Money represents your energy; the
quality of it and the extent to which it flows. Money is a good thermometer as to
how your energy is flowing - are you holding on to the little bit because you are
afraid of being left with nothing? Clenched fists are not open to receive. It lets
us know when greed and avarice are ruling our lives. When we don't want to give,
we have blocked ourselves from receiving.
Why would anyone want to participate in tithing? It is a spiritual law given to
us by the Supreme Being Himself. You become a co-partner with Him and are able to
develop a personal relationship with Him. It is a wonderful prosperity formula that
works as a catalyst for you to prosper financially, mentally, spiritually and physically.
"Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, that there
may be food in my house, and test me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I
will not open for you the windows of heaven, and pour out for you a blessing, that
there shall not be room enough to receive it."
