The Healing Power of Essential OilsBy Nancy GrundyYlang Ylang For sexual problems, ylang ylang is very helpful on the emotional and physical plane. It has a soothing, relaxing, anti-depressant effect. This will help calm, and soothe the anxious, impatient states which could lead to, or be attributed to sexual problems. Neroli/Orange Blossom Neroli/orange blossom is traditionally used in bridal bouquets due to the slightly hypnotic effect of the essence. It is one of the strongest stress-relieving oils. It has primarily an emotional effect, although it is used for acute stress related problems such as colitis, palpitations, insomnia, and diarrhea. When chronic diarrhea is related to stress, shock or nervous tension, it can be used. Orange Blossom will help reduce balance by calming and promoting relaxation. Palpitations respond to the calming action Neroli has on the heart, decreasing the amplitude of the heart muscle constrictions. Massage and aromatic baths are the best methods of application of this oil. These methods in particular aid in alleviating any tension hidden in the muscles or body posture which need relaxing. Neroli is one of the best skin rejuvenating oils, and is especially helpful for stretch marks and dry, sensitive skin. Neroli/Orange Blossom is one of the most precious for stress-related problems, such as shock, hysteria, fear, or for nervousness before an exam or interview. Thoughts that prevent us from "switching off" can be alleviated by Neroli/Orange Blossom. It is also beneficial when used for any stress cycle that affects our sleep patterns, our digestion, or our energy. It will calm and soothe the body, mind and spirit. Mandarin Mandarin is a general tonic and digestive stimulant. It strengthens the liver and stomach, and stimulates them (as does grapefruit). It calms intestinal problems and can be combined with grapefruit, orange and Neroli for greater effect. It is particularly useful for those of fragile dispositions, such as the elderly or children. Mandarin is completely safe to use during pregnancy. For children's tummy upset, massage abdomen in a clockwise direction with mandarin blends. This will soothe, comfort, and help expel gas and relieve discomfort.
