Thinking
Of Parents
Expectations become standards for what parents should be. An outline is formed for how they should act, and most importantly, how parents must treat their children. Parents are bound to fall short of these ideas concocted in our mind. This is like fertilized soil for the weeds of frustration, anger, disappointment, and resentment. Rebellion, distance, blame, and defensiveness may become our weapons on the battlefield while we fight for our ideal. Not receiving the things we want and expect from our parents, such as attention, emotional support, financial support, even material possessions, all allow these feelings to grow. Why can't they? Why do/don't they? They should/shouldn't! These are all symptoms of the expectations that keep us bound to negative feelings and ideas toward our parents. They must be weeded out so that we may be free. Parents go through their own trials and tribulations. When we stop punishing and disrespecting them for not being what we think they should be, we can just allow them to be where they're at. And that is exactly where they are suppose to be. The parents of our body have given us lifelong lessons and love (even when we've put our own conditions on it). Our Heavenly Father is the true Source of our Life. He will provide us with everything we need.
