Slick Willy & Impeachment

By William Duby

I said it before that the election of Bill Clinton was an accident waiting to happen. He has done the unthinkable in the eyes of many members of congress. He has violated the "rule of law." And since America is a Republic rather than a democracy (believe it or not), the polling of the American people means little, if any thing at all, when the elected body of the congress has the solemn duty to uphold the tenets of the U.S. Constitution, first and foremost. That's the whole point of the swearing in ceremony, upholding the U.S. Constitution. So, whether the republicans like it or not, they must demonstrate their concern for the "rule of law" before their personal feelings regarding the fate of Bill Clinton; and, I might add, whether they are replaced should they vote to impeach.

The whole impeachment fiasco is a major problem to all who are aware with common sense. It is a political hot potato. Everyone is aware Bill Clinton didn't tell the whole truth so help him God. There isn't any doubt in the minds of nearly every American. Yet, the people polled decidedly want to keep him in office; and this in and of itself becomes a problem for the astute politician knowing the workings of the U.S. Constitution.

The politician looking for the easy way out wants a censure while the statesmen among the group are fully aware they must do the unthinkable, and do their job to uphold the Republican form of government based upon the constitutional rule of law. So, both sides are in a quandary, it seems everyone is in a pickle; a dilemma of Bill Clinton's making. One that "Slick Willy" must know is quite a predicament where anyone with a vote is caught between a "rock and a hard place." And, if he doesn't know then he is truly a lost soul because he created the muddled mess.

The people with wisdom know well that he should resign immediately; this would end the nightmare but Clinton isn't about to do that anymore than Saddam Hussein is going to step down from power. So the beat goes on.

When they say that "power corrupts" they must mean that the people involved lose all common sense. If the democrats want to help each other win the next presidential election the best thing they could do is encourage resignation. The republicans would then run against the incumbent President Al Gore. But, no! The democrats have to make it look like they are behind their duly elected President that is embarrassing them. And, of course, the republicans don't want Clinton to resign, or become impeached for they don't want to run against the incumbent; but, they must make it look like they are upholding the rule of law at the risk of losing the next presidential election. Anyway you look at it, it is a bad game, this charades, because it doesn't help the homeless, fatherless, motherless, sick, disabled and dysfunctional people. In fact, it disrupts the flow of government, that is supposed to be for the people, by the people and unto the people.

It is a sad affair, this Washington media driven love affair with slander, gossip, bewilderment and confusion. But, it is here, and it isn't going away because Clinton is decided to stay in office. And I would like to book a bet that the media wants him to stay else the circus leaves town and the story comes to an end.

Personally, I don't care what Bill Clinton does in his sex life. It is his private business. That area of your body isn't called, "the privates", for nothing. I would have told them all to go to hell. But, since Bill swore on the Holy Bible, in a Judeo-Christian, Constitutionally driven "Republican form of government" he made a mistake; a tactical mistake that the "power brokers" in Washington are going to make him pay dearly for. This is to say, if they can in any manner, shape or form. So, bottom line is this. Those people that believe America is a democracy, more likely than not, favor censure; the people that believe America is a "Republic" are in favor of either a resignation or an impeachment vote. Common sense says, if you have been elected to uphold the tenets of the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights, the only door open truly so, is impeach him or let him go.

I have been watching the pundits on television. Each keeps telling everyone what they think constitutes the judicial reasons for impeachment. I keep hearing about the people's will. The congress has taken the oath of office to uphold the United States Constitution. Congress is the Constitutional body that decides what is the exact high crime(s) and misdemeanor(s). Lawyers need to get their nose out of it, and leave it to the law makers to do their job, for they are the constitutional magistrates. And a house vote to impeach will cause the Senate to invite the Chief Justice to oversee its constitutional duty. After saying all this, all I know from my understanding of what's right is, I would vote to replace my Congressman if he took the oath of office and didn't uphold the constitution. I would think he is just as guilty as Bill, alias, "Slick Willy."

In any event, we are viewing history in the making. May we all see clearly that the law of the land is upheld for the rule of law rather than the rule of a king or dictator.
