Tithing: It's The Law

Tithing is the law. And just like natural law, you are supposed to obey it. Natural laws are the container of the spiritual law, they enclose spiritual law, like clothes do the body, and the body does you, the spirit. People break natural law, thinking that they won't get caught, and if they do get caught they either pay the fine or do the time.

Well what happens when you break spiritual law? Generally speaking, you have pestilence, famine, plague, sickness, poverty etc. In short, it is not fun. Yet this is what many people settle for in life.

The fruit of breaking spiritual law is abundant: People worry about money, worry about their health, what will they do if they can't work, who will take care of them when they get old, what if someone robs me; a vicious cycle of fear and loathing that causes people to be afraid of even saying hello to one another when walking down the street. People are putting tons and tons of energy into just getting by, just surviving and all because they are ignorant, unaware or disobeying the spiritual law of tithing.

All that need happen is each individual decide that they are going to obey spiritual law. To do that there needs to be a change in thinking. This is known as repentance, which means to "think again," or to have a radical change in thought. To have a change in thinking requires education, and that is the aim of this article, to bring forth and hold up to the light what is holding you back and how you can move forward for a prosperous life that begins and ends with a rejoiceful attitude towards yourself and your place in the Universe.

Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver. -2 Corinthians 9:7

The spiritual law of tithing is eternal, it has always been here, it is the Creator's way of ensuring that we have a prosperous life, by including Him in our finances. Tithing is His way of transforming us into givers. It is written that it is the love of money that is the root of all evil. Many a sincere but misinformed person have been led astray by this simple sentence, thinking that money is therefore evil, when it is the love or emotionalized attachment to money that is being addressed here. Tithing methodically roots out of your system selfishness, greed and avarice. In the beginning stages of this cleanout the critical factor in your conscious mind says, "There is no way that by doing this act of tithing I will prosper. How can tithing build treasure up in heaven, I'm not even so sure there is a heaven, let alone a God - this is some scam thought up by the church to get my money, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah."

That is why the Creator says in Malachi:
"Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open for you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it." - Malachi 3:10

In other words, your conscious mind has no idea as how the Creator is going to prosper you as His energy moves through your body, mind and soul in the act of tithing, but He does say it will be really good stuff!

Tithing is the placement of 10-30% of your income as an offering to the Creator. This is done by bringing the tithe to the place that is educating you about tithing.

"Then there shall be a place which the LORD your God shall choose to cause his name to dwell there; thither shall ye bring all that I command you; your burnt offerings, and your sacrifices, your tithes, and the heave offering of your hand, and all your choice vows which ye vow unto the LORD." - Deuteronomy 12:11

This tithe is calculated from your gross (pre-tax) earnings. Attitude is all important in tithing. The attitude to adopt as reality is that it is THE SUPREME BEING DOING THE TITHING! Only the Supreme Being can tithe, and He uses your hands to do it.

And all the tithe of the land, whether of the seed of the land, or of the fruit of the tree, is the LORD'S: it is holy unto the LORD. - Levitticus 27:30

Prior to tithing, however, you make your first fruits offering. This is the point where you realize that the Supreme Being is the Source of your supply, and you have an undying urge to start banking with Him, or at least as Malachi says, to test me now herewith, and see if you won't prosper. So the first fruits offering is assessing everything that you have and presenting 10% of that as an offering to the Church. This is the recognition that the Creator is your sponsor and this is His seed to continue prospering you with.

Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When ye be come into the land which I give unto you, and shall reap the harvest thereof, then ye shall bring a sheaf of the firstfruits of your harvest unto the priest. - Levitticus 23:10

And now, behold, I have brought the firstfruits of the land, which thou, O LORD, hast given me. And thou shalt set it before the LORD thy God, and worship before the LORD thy God: And thou shalt rejoice in every good thing which the LORD thy God hath given unto thee, and unto thine house, thou, and the Levite, and the stranger that is among you. - Deuteronomy 26:10-11

Each year, at the beginning of the new year, you do another first fruits offering representing the first income that you receive of that year. In other words whatever comes in first you give as your first fruits of the year.

Likewise, whenever you start a new venture, you place a first fruits offering of the first income from that venture, this blesses or empowers each new thing you do with the Creator's energy, you are including Him as the central Figure in your life.

Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase. So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine. - Proverbs 3:9-10

After the first fruits offering has been given, then tithing really begins. If you have not done the initial first fruits offering that represents your total assessment of what you have been blessed with by the Supreme Being, you are not allowing Him to work through you in tithing, you are simply making an offering, and until your offerings equal what that first fruits offering should have been when you became aware of this process, tithing does not begin.

Whenever you get paid, God gets his first. Then you sit back and watch how He prospers you. How the bright ideas begin to flow, your attitude becomes whole and your body radiates enthusiasm or God within, and why not, He is within your body doing the tithing!

One of the first things you may notice about tithing is that your mental state begins to change, attitudes of self righteousness, must be cleansed (and what a blessing that is) in order for you to fully experience the joy that this spiritual practice brings.

Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone. - Matthew 23:23

Tithing creates flow in your life. It is the time when you are reminded that the Creator is with you, that you are not separate from Him. All the people I have ever talked with about tithing have said that it seems like they are the ones doing it when it happens, yet we know it is Him, in truth, tithing shows you just how inseparable you are from the Creator. You and He are One.

And here (Earth) men that die receive tithes; but there (Heaven) He receiveth them, of whom it is witnessed that He liveth. - Hebrews 7:8
