How
You Can Maintain Your Mind/Body
Connection in the Workplace
By Sasha Lahrs
The
workplace is where many of us spend the majority of our time, energy and
attention. Were in contact with many types of people of different
mindsets & belief systems that challenge us to own who we are and
what we know. Were faced with different responsibilities, challenges
and situations all demanding our focus, time, and energy. Often times
we go through the whole day, not having taken time for ourselves, and
lose touch with our connection to Spirit as well as our body awareness.
We may go home tired, having taken on energy and attitudes of those around
us, go to sleep, and return to the same routine day after day. This all
isnt too much fun.
There are things you can do to re-connect to Spirit, refresh your mind
and body in the midst of your workday. All the little things add up. Here
are some helpful tips to keep you on the upward swing.
Do your best to be amused, and to avoid judging or taking things personally.
People are always going to treat you how they feel about themselves. Have
some compassion for them, as they are only acting out the energy that
they have been exposed to. Know that it is not who they truly are. You
can even flip your perspective to a positive one, by seeing them in a
better light than they may even be seeing themselves. This keeps you from
taking on and carrying negativity with you, and could even cause a healing
to take place for the both of you.
The attitude you carry with you can have such a great effect on your spirit/body
connection, the flow of your energy, and prosperity. Over time, and a
build up of stress and accumulated energies from others, our attitudes
can become influenced in the negative. We can lose the zest and love of
doing our work, begin to take things for granted, and lose our positive
attitude towards our work. To help maintain a positive attitude, and open
yourself up to positive experiences, you could ask yourself, How
can I be of use today? or How would I be doing my job if this
were my own company?
If youre stressed or need a quick change in perspective, one of
the best ways to clear your mind is to take a short walk during
a break period. This gets your blood flowing, your energy moving and your
attention off of what may have been bothering you. Say hello to your body.
Feel the ground beneath your feet. Breathe deeply, and feel the renewing
energy flowing through your body. Nature scenery is very soothing to both
mind and body. Enjoy the clouds and the sky, trees, plants and flowers
that may be around you. If you work on a computer, get a screensaver or
background image of some beautiful nature scenes.
Some time to turn within (even in the middle of the day) can do wonders.
If you have a time and place to close your eyes for a few minutes, this
is another great way to disconnect from external conditions and reconnect
with yourself as spirit. If youve learned meditation or self-relaxation
techniques, they are also highly beneficial to use as tools to let go
of stress during the day. If you have a walkman or car stereo, you could
even take some time to listen to short guided meditation or soothing music.
One short audio tape that Ive used over the years for quick relaxation
and refreshment is called, Super Powerful Meditation, by Rev.
Mark Reymont. I highly recommend it. You can get ordering information
