Twenty Years of Heath & HarmonyTwenty thousand people are expected to gather June 13-14, at Sonoma County Fairgrounds, for the Twentieth Birthday Celebration of the Health and Harmony Music and arts Festival. Many of those who will gather have cherished memories of festivals past and will gather again to pay tribute to the treasured legacy created by the annual event. Conceived by founder Debra Giusti, the festival serves as a testament to the strength and the power of one individuals' commitment to a creative vision. Multi cultural music, art drumming, and dance will highlight the festivities, while over 500 exhibitors will share the latest information, and the newest products, designed to heal mind heart, body and spirit. Voted best festival year after year, the Health and Harmony Festival has consistently provided fairgoers with a joyous experience and an expanded future-vision of a healthy and harmonious life style. Originally produced by students at Sonoma State University as the Spring Harmony Festival, both the vision and the popularity of the festival expanded and evolved rapidly. Debra relocated the Festival to the Sonoma County Fairgrounds in 1978 and it was then renamed the Health and Harmony Music and Arts Festival, with a progressive grassroots emphasis on holistic healing, personal growth environmental health and conservation issues, music, the arts and harmonious living as an individual within a global society. Nurturing those still seeding thoughts through the seventies, the eighties and into the nineties, the ideas embraced by the Health and Harmony Festival have spread and are now accepted by the mainstream public as desired and needed alternatives. Twenty years dedicated to the ideals of Health and Harmony is no small achievement. Since its inception, like a child, the Health and Harmony Festival has grown and matured. Like all offspring, there comes a time in life when it is ready to become an independent entity. Debra Guisti, who has been both mother and founder of this community event, is preparing to relinquish her role as an active mother after the Twentieth Birthday Celebration, and hopes to continue to serve the community in the future by providing grandmotherly guidance. The future of this much loved Festival will depend, in part, on the strength of community involvement and support. Each year the festival has chosen two charities to support, in addition to offering a number of free booths each year to nonprofit organizations who embody the spirit of Health and Harmony that the Festival promotes. Now it is time for the community to embrace their child as it comes of age and to lend time, energy, vision and resources to the legacy born of a future-vision that will continue to grow and expand for may years.Ê
