Tithing: Unchanging Law of ProsperityBy Rev. Roseanna GurstThe first thing that needs to be known about tithing is that it is a spiritual law. A spiritual law recorded in the Bible, as well as many of the other great scriptures that have been recorded on this planet. This is a law initiated by the Supreme Being, for the Supreme Being. Spiritual law describes how the Supreme Being's Presence or Energy works throughout the Universe. It is unchanging. It has an order to it that transcends fads, fashions, ups and downs. It is a ruler with which we can measure the quality of life. In the Bible, the
measure of life is called fruit. What fruit are you bearing in life?
The tithing law describes how the Supreme Being's energy works through
us, as His children, so that we can have a prosperous and abundant lifestyle
while on earth and beyond into the hereafter. The spiritual law of tithing has been practiced and honored for centuries and by great civilizations. The Supreme Being has set this law up so that He is the only one that can tithe. Therefore it belongs to God Himself, to do with what He sees fit. The Supreme Being is being us when we participate in tithing. He is the only life that there is, and to think otherwise is self delusion. He exercises His spirit in us to tithe, moving what appears to be our hand, but truly is His hand to put the money in the basket. Therefore, it is no ones business but yours, the person He is tithing through, and Himself. It is kept in secret. This enables us to exercise practicing our spiritual muscles, while using our free will to recognize that there is only one life, His. When tithing, the tithe is to be given to the person and or place who is responsible for teaching the Law of tithing; the place where you receive your spiritual nourishment. We are responsible for tithing when we are first educated about the law. Once educated, God knows that He has given you the information and that you have received it, and now you are responsible for upholding God's spiritual law. This is done regardless of how our personality feels about it. Bring all the
tithes into the storehouse, that there maybe meat in mine house, and
prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of host, if I will not open for
you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall
not be room enough to receive it. Tithing FormulaSpeak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When ye be come into the land which I give unto you, and shall reap the harvest thereof, then ye shall bring a sheaf of the firstfruits of your harvest unto the priest:--Levitticus 23:10 Tithing begins with the firstfruits offering. To do this you tally up your total net worth, all that you own and present an offering of 10% of that value. This is done recognizing that everything that you have has been given to you by the Supreme Being, the Source of all your supply. And now, behold,
I have brought the firstfruits of the land, which thou, O LORD, hast
given me. And thou shalt set it before the LORD thy God, and worship
before the LORD thy God: After the firstfruits offering has been given, tithing truly begins and there is a formula to tithing. When tithing the tithe is at least 10% (10 is the number of increase), 20% (meaning all things of good that still remain), or 30% (meaning full of remains--ten three times) of all gross income (not net), anything of value. Anything after that is considered a Goodwill Offering. Once the tithe is given we must activate the Supreme Beings faith stored within us and let it go. And once you have let it go, realize that the tithe is in God's hands (as it always was), and it is no longer our business or responsibility as to how it is used. "Faith is the Law
in motion, faith causes the formless to take form, faith enables you
to stand still while the Law is doing the work." As Ordained Ministers we are directed to inform God's children of the law of tithing. It is our duty to do so, by not robbing God of His tithes and offerings. The Bible shows us in Malachi 2:7 "For the priest lips should keep knowledge, and they should speak the law at His mouth; for he is the messenger of the lord of Host." We can block ourselves as children of God when it comes to tithing by thinking that because we tithe, we will get some special praise and acknowledgment, somehow if we are good and perfect, God will give us everything we want. This attitude could set a person up for a big disappointment, leaving him angry, angry because he did not get what he wanted. Tithing was not set up for this purpose. Woe unto you, scribes and
Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin,
and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy,
and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.
This is considered giving to get something in return. Remember, once the tithe is given it is no longer our business as to what is done with it. Another element in tithing is having a positive attitude. For those who are believers: lead by the Holy Spirit of God, seeking His truth, waiting obediently for His guidance, wanting to be close to Him, wanting to experience more of His life, then His law, this spiritual law of tithing applies to you. And by following
the spiritual principles of the bible, by living our lives in such a
way that we don't take from ourselves or harm another, we activate His
awareness, wisdom and truth that is within us all. Enabling us to prosper
beyond belief.
