The Art of Feng ShuiMeredyth Yales interviewed by Deborah Saliby
I had the honor to meet and experience the home environment of a lovely woman who specializes in the art of Feng Shui. Her name is Meredyth Yates, and she has over 30 years experience in this field and she is a master of her trade. She has traveled extensively throughout China, Japan, India, Nepal, Europe and the United States to receive metaphysical methods, Shamanic secrets and spiritual initiations from many teachers. She conducts a comprehensive analysis of your home or business, taking aesthetic, architectural, energetic and other aspects into consideration. Her goal is to help you create an environment to live in which nourishes your being and brings harmony and peacefulness into your life stream. Who wouldn't want that! So on with the interview. Deborah: What is Feng Shui? Meredyth: The art and science of adjusting energy (Chi) vital life-force bio energy, in an environment to support the well being of the inhabitants of that environment. The Chinese have been paying attention to energy or chi, for thousands of years. Feng Shui probably started in agriculture, and paying attention to how the weather patterns worked and what was the most favorable situation; not to be too high on the hill because the winds were too fierce, not to be too low because of the floods, just paying attention and orienting themselves favorably. Then they were watching the stars as well, how do we orient ourselves favorably to the heavens? So they got this sense of as above so below. So that is really what got it all started. They had a science, a wisdom, an innate sense of intuition, and they put it together in a number of different kinds of schools of Feng Shui. Particularly the school which took into consideration the lay of the land to a very high and complex degree. However what we are dealing with now are homes that are already built. We can't do a lot about the lay of the land because everything is placed already. Then what you do is go to the chi, the essence, to the life-force, the vitality, you balance the chi. And you can do that somewhat by how things are arranged. Is there a good chi pattern, does the energy come in and flow smoothly, does it meander, does it go too fast, too long, too straight? There are a whole lot of different dynamics to chi. Fortunately these days there are quite a few architects who are paying attention to Feng Shui. A lot of architects do things, intuitively. Feng Shui is very intuitive, however you need more than intuition. Feng Shui originally came from China, but many of the major cultures of the world have their own systems, not called Feng Shui, but a system of orientation. The Celts certainty had it, the American Indians had it the way they oriented their tee pees, and their prayer wheels. The great cathedrals of the world all oriented on lay lines. So they all knew. There are different orientations for different cultures in different parts of the world. Whatever is appropriate to that particular place. So the whole key is first seeing how the energy works. Not only how the house is placed but what has the house absorbed over the years. What has it taken on from it's inhabitants already. Or if it's a new house, bless it and make the nature spirits happy that were displaced while the house was getting built. Deborah: So your dealing with the energy in the house, and then placing the furniture accordingly. Meredyth: Right, actually the furniture part is the most superficial part. I look at how the energy is working in the house, I feel it and I douse. I look at more than what you can see with your physical eyes. I am just looking for the quality of energy that is in the home. Deborah: So you are really using your clairvoyance? Meredyth: Yes, to some extent. I'm using a lot of different things. I'm using my clairvoyance, a dousing rod, I'm using my intuition, my Shamanic voice which clears a lot of things. I use all these things to clear the energy. If there's negative energy I clear it out and bring the positive angelic qualities in. I take into consideration the ascetics, it's practicality and it's energy. And it's not so much what the home looks like but what it feels like afterward. So the heart of Feng Shui is balancing and harmonizing the chi, the vitality life-force energy. Once the energy is harmonized and balanced in the home miracles can happen. Relationships become healed, children stop acting up, I've seen so many things change for people over the years once the energy is shifted in their home. It's a healing for the home which supports the well-being of the people who live in it.
