Keeping Your Amusement Through The Holiday Season

By Debi Livingston, BCH, CI

Amusement (noun)

1. the feeling that something is funny or entertaining 2. an enjoyable activity such as a game, a hobby, or a form of entertainment 3. the act of keeping somebody or a group of people occupied or entertained

Muse (verb)
1. to think about something in a deep and serious or dreamy and abstracted way 2. to say something in a thoughtful or questioning way (literary) 3. to gaze at somebody or something thoughtfully or abstractedly (literary) 4. a state of deep thought (literary)

Muse (noun)
1. somebody who is a source of inspiration for an artist, especially a poet 2. the inspiration that supposedly visits, leaves, and suggests things to an artist, especially a poet 3. the particular gift or talent of an artist, especially a poet

It’s that time of year again. Summer clothes are not yet put away, Halloween costumes barely chosen; yet stores are lined with rows of Christmas decorations and Home for the Holiday sentiments. Can it really be that time of year – again? Bear with me whilst I muse awhile, please.
It used to be, back in days of yore, that the Christmas Season didn’t officially begin until the day after Thanksgiving. Some may argue it began on Thanksgiving Day itself, at the tail end of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, with Santa pulling up the rear on his sleigh with wheels, waving to the crowds on his way back to the North Pole for the final month of frantic present packing. Then the stores would haul out the Christmas loot and 30 shopping days till Christmas seemed to take forever. Back in the day.
Now the pressure for Christmas seems to start earlier and earlier each year. For some this is a welcome and anticipated occasion; there’s food to bake, gifts to buy, parties to attend and trees to decorate. Then, for others, it can be a dreaded period indeed. Some families struggle to survive each day and the added demands of buying gifts with money they don’t have is enough to cause stress for a lifetime.
Maybe you’re a single parent experiencing the empty nest syndrome for the first time; the kids are grown and off enjoying their first Christmas “on their own”. Guess what? So are you, but they don’t see it that way! Or perhaps you’re divorced with joint custody and this is the Christmas spent with the other parent. Go ahead and fill in the blank with your own sad tale and then decide to be sad no more! For as much as you may fight to maintain your reasons why the holidays are depressing and stressful, I am here to give you hope! To help lift your weary minds out of the doldrums of gloomy affairs! So turn off those Hallmark commercials that make you cry and read on dear friends. We shall embark together on a journey through amusement and bright ideas to help carry you through the endless rounds of Deck the Halls and God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen.
Amusement is the highest form of healing and laughter is the wine of the gods. A healing is a positive change that takes place in your space, be it physical, emotional, mental or spiritual. Keeping amusement through the holidays is a way to maintain your own personal energy vibration in spite of everything else going on around you.
Take a moment to reflect on the type of holidays you experienced as a child. Were they filled with warmth, love, safe feelings and tenderness, or, were they more stressful because the alcoholic parent drank more, fighting intensified and the turkey always burned? These may seem insignificant now, but in fact, those early experiences have created pockets of emotionally charged images in your aura and subconscious mind. Each time the ‘Season’ rolls around again, those pictures get stimulated. Maybe you have gone on the opposite end of the stick and have to create the perfect holiday for everyone, yet are unable to enjoy it yourself. Or, maybe you unplug the phone and go into hiding until January 2nd of the New Year. Whatever you experience during the Christmas Season, let this year be a year of new traditions and ways to have fun, no matter what your personal circumstance may be. The following are a few ideas to help get you started.
Feeling down? Then find someone who needs to see a smile! Convalescent homes are filled with lonely people who would love to have your company. The staff would more than welcome your presence.
Print out goofy jokes off the Internet. Bring them to the convalescent home and read them to the people you visit. Enjoy hearing them laugh!
Rent comedy movies. When Norman Cousins was diagnosed with a serious illness he rented old Laurel & Hardy films and laughed his way back to health. Laughing stimulates the third chakra, kicking out the foreign energies draining your personal power.
Create a list of 12 things you’ve never done before that you’d like to do. Starting January, do one new thing a month.
Do one nice thing for yourself each day. This could be taking a long walk, getting a massage, taking a hot bath with a good cup of tea. Learning to give to yourself is an art unto itself, but important!
Maybe it’s been a long time since you’ve been to church but have been yearning to go. Listen to your instincts and find a church you feel an affinity towards. It’s never too late to re-connect with the God of your Heart.
Make a list of all the things you’re thankful for in your life. You’ll be surprised how blessed you are!
Get a psychic reading. A reading will give you insight as to the energy patterns you have created around the holidays. Are you creating the season how you want it to be, or are you re-enacting how your parents created it to be when you were young? A reading will help you de-energize these patterns, giving you space to create what you want to experience.
Get a hypnosis session. Being in your subconscious mind is an empowering way to release stress during this time of year. You can focus on what you want to manifest and use the power of your mind to help bring it into your life.
Get a free aura healing. A simple aura cleansing starts to release other people’s thoughts and feelings from your energy field. Now you can experience your own vibration. It feels great – and you’ll hear lots of silly jokes to make you laugh.
Make a list of all the things I didn’t suggest to help you be happy and amused. Do them!
