Dear Pet Psychic,
A friend of mine gave me your address and said I should write and
enlist your assistance in finding out why one of our cats seems
"troubled." Thanks, Coleen
Coleen,
I see this cat being very restless, like it can't make up its mind.
I see pictures of the cat being with the other cats but then
it gets up and looks at a tree with birds in it. Then it goes back
to wanting attention. Then something else gets its attention. One
of the reasons I see this cat being restless is it looks very independent.
It likes the other cats but it also likes doing its own thing. It
likes human attention but it wants to be left alone too. The other
cats look more settled in their roles. It looks like it has something
to do with the pecking order and this cat didn't really get to pick
its spot in the pecking order. It has chosen being more independent
since it is not a passive cat or a very dominating cat. I see the
cat feeling a little ungrounded with the other animals and amount
of attention it gets from you.
Dear Pet Psychic,
Hello! I have a 5 year old male cat
and I've just adopted a 3year old female cat, both Persian. It's
been 2 days now and my resident cat is still hissing and/or running
away when approached by my Lady Cici. Once CiCi is minding her own
business and not paying any attention to Tuki, he then takes that
opportunity to stare at her from a distance but once she acknowledges
him and wants to get acquainted with her new roommate, he starts
hissing again. The hissing doesn't seem to bother her in the least
bit. Is this natural? Is this going to blow over or do you think
they are simply not compatible enough to live together? Thanks for
reading, Gaberial
Gaberial,
The picture I see around the situation
with both of your cats is like mom bringing the baby home from
the hospital. Your male cat Tuki, looks insecure like he doesn’t
want to be replaced in your affections. His main question looks
like, “How will this change things for me?” Does this
mean less food, less love, less prime spots to nap in? His reaction
looks perfectly normal and I don’t see that he dislikes
the new cat, I just see that the parameters he is used to living
in are changing. As he feels more secure in his home and in your
heart, I see that he will interact and become friends with the
new cat. Lady CiCi looks very confident and in some ways is more
dominant than your male cat. It looks like she feels completely
entitled to everything in your home, including you. She looks
like a queen and the male cat looks like a prince, not quite at
her stature. Overall, I see that they will both enjoy the company
and learn to get along as they get used to each other and the
new kitty hierarchy.
