Positive Thinking
By Sherry Kirschner
Many of us are sensitive and emotional beings whose bodies react in one way or another to various influences that come our way. As we go through a day so many thoughts go through our heads. We can react negatively to the invasion or positively, depending on how much control we have over our own mind. Herein lies the key. Can we indeed control our thoughts so that each experience in our life becomes a positive memory in our memory banks? Telling an emotionally based person in the midst of an emotional crisis to control his thinking so that he can learn from the experience is like asking a Frenchman to speak Greek right off the top of his head. Almost an impossibility!
Most of us sensitives are so quick to react or go on the defensive or go into our safe shell-like cocoon when situations become more difficult than we think we can handle. But there is the saying that God never gives you more than you can handle. So if this is true how can we learn to rise above those emotionally negative responses to difficult situations?
What if we begin to look at each situation, circumstance, turn of events, changes to our ordinary ways of living, as a challenge or a learning lesson? This would take some practice, a new way to use our minds. We could learn some useful techniques and each time a situation arises we could practice using them, perhaps at the beginning, after the initial explosion of emotion is over. A little at a time is better than nothing at all.
How can we change a negative thought or reaction to a positive learning experience so we indeed can have the positive memory stored in our subconscious mind for further review when a similar situation comes up?
In speaking with a few people about this subject I received some interesting responses. When I asked them to tell me about positive thinking in their lives and how it affects them here are some of the replies. One said, Positive thinking is about staying focused on what we want to experience. When in the negative its like looking at the cup half empty. Thoughts like these arise: theres no solution to a problem or I have to make something happen. At these times we usually dont feel good about ourselves and are not seeing the whole picture but only a small part of it, the part that has locked us in to this way of thinking, seeing just the problems.
Turning a negative situation into a positive will give one the power to know that we can indeed control our mind in order to manifest the kind of lifestyle we would like for ourselves for eternity.
Another person said, Positive thinking sets up the energy for your body to respond positively to things. Its like charting your course mentally first and then the body just acts it out. Good advice.
Another response was this: A positive thought doesnt sit there and annoy you. I get tired when Im thinking negatively and I dont enjoy what Im doing. When I am thinking positively I can move from one task to another freely, I am more energetic and I get along better with myself and with other people.
Some words of wisdom spoken here. As members of the human race we can be and should be responsible for the way we use our minds. Thinking positively can benefit yourself as well as those around you. The subconscious mind does not know truth from falsity. Fake it till you make it as the saying goes. Thats why for years people have been doing affirmations to image in what they want. Even if they dont really feel it or believe it at that time, the positive is still going in to the subconscious mind and registering another positive memory.
Everything you say or think is a prayer for or against yourself. What goes through your mind or comes out your mouth could make you or break you. How do you want to live your life? You do have a choice. If you would like to learn some very simple techniques to help you on this journey contact the Spiritual Rights Foundation and talk to someone there. Theyll help you find the class or workshop thats right for you. Theyll also have the compassion to understand your plight because they too have been there doing what youve been doing.
