On September 13, 1997 the first hypnotherapist certification class
taught at ISHI, the International Spiritual Hypnotherapy Institute,
began with an attention grabbing two days of foundation work in the
basics of spiritual hypnotherapy.
What set the two days apart were the talks and demonstrations given
by the founder of ISHI, Rev. William Duby. "The goal at ISHI,"
he said, "is for client-oriented therapy," and the demonstrations
that he presented left no doubt about this.
"The hypnotherapist
works with the client, helping him to remove induced psychic blocks
that play havoc upon the mind. The individual knows more about his person
than anyone else and the whole point is to lead him back to himself.
And in doing this great deed, you've participated in giving him a helping
hand to awaken and be well through the power of self-realization."
Rev. Duby further explained, "Trance is not a cure-all, love is
the cure-all.
Trance simply shows you the way it is, but trance will not take the
way for you. In other words, you must take the state of mind that you've
acquired in the unconscious and bring it forth to the conscious by continuing
on in your thinking, believing and acting the same way long after the
trance experience is over."
In one spontaneous demonstration, three individuals enacted a scenario
where they were talking to the instructor, the suggestion being that
the instructor was their mother. In each individual's case, their mothers
had passed on some time ago. The mood in the room was absolutely spell-binding.
These individuals, in a very deep state of trance&emdash;with their
eyes wide open, were talking to this person whom they saw as their mother
in very emotional terms. They were saying things to her that had evidently
been left unspoken for many years.
As the demonstration continued, the individuals released pent-up energies
that had blocked certain aspects of their lives from flowing. You'd
have thought a raincloud had burst upon us, because their expression
of love was so powerful, so dynamic and so exhilarating that there wasn't
a dry eye in the room.
It was a special time for us all because suppressed energy was released
and our heartfelt convictions that we are okay flooded the room with
emotions that spelled release with a capital R. We all came to witness
a level of healing Rev. Duby calls, "the psychic power of hypnosis"
that is rarely seen in this modern age.
Editor's note: ISHI sponsors a free lecture/demonstration on Sunday
evenings at 6:30 pm. There is also a Hypnotherapy Healing Clinic on
Monday evenings at 6:00 pm. The donation for an hour long session at
