New Music, New Media &
Vibrational Medicine
By John Mini, Director of the
Trans-Hyperborean Institute of Science
What is Vibrational Medicine? As with any new and exploratory field, each of
it's practitioners seems to have their own set of definitions and rules
which apply to the game. However, there is at least one concept among
these that all the practitioners of Vibrational Medicine agree with: Vibrational
Medicine works, at least in part, on the principle of resonance.
The word resonance comes from the Latin word resonancia, which means to echo. To
resonate means to reinforce or prolong a particular vibration in one location by
the use of a similar vibration in another location. Have you ever noticed when listening
to music how certain pieces of furniture will vibrate during one part of a song?
This is the principle of resonance in action.
The principle of resonance can
be applied to the field of medicine and even spiritual growth because all objects
are themselves resonators, that is, they both transmit and respond to specific frequencies
of vibration. A practitioner of Vibrational Medicine has the ability to communicate
with these frequencies in their patients either directly or through the use of instrumentation,
and to influence these frequencies for the better. Using music is a primary way to
work with frequencies.
According to Dr. John Beaulieu, we enter new music with our ears&emdash;listening
we seek harmony. Not harmony in the tonal sense, but harmony in the original meaning
of the word, "to fit together." We learn to let ourselves fit with and
resonate with the sounds. Dissonance means not fitting. Dissonance is an inability
to be flexible. It is the root of all disease.
Webster's defines healing as "to make sound." It might be more accurate
if we were to say "to become sound." The healing practice of Sharry Edwards,
a CD-Rom called Concorus, and the music and performances of Vulcan's Child are all
good examples of different types of new music and vibrational modalities.
Sharry Edwards has the remarkable ability to actually hear many levels of frequencies
which lie beyond the range of ordinary human perception. She can sense "gaps"
in sound fields which indicate frequencies that can then be supplemented to complete
the tonal picture of the patient. Sharry has a great respect for the scientific process,
has fully documented years of her research, and has even created a system where others
are able to recreate some of her results, at least in part, with the use of tone
analyzing and generating devices.
Concorus, an interactive musical CD- Rom, represents organic mathematical ratios
and sequences in the form of changing sound and color patterns on your computer monitor.
Any living biological system responds to these cues as if it were in a natural setting.
The program interacts with the users on a number of very interesting levels, which
creates a cascading of positive feedback loops and tends to help the users fell positive
and inspired.
Vulcan's Child is a group of performance artists who use DNA based sequencing
patterns to create ambient, regenerative musical and visual environments. Each CD
they produce is an organic opera designed to address a specific issue, and trains
our body, mind and spirit in natural and subtle ways. Their music stimulates a healing
response which evokes a natural balance in the listener.
Actively using different kinds of new music, media and vibrational modalities
activates the deeper functions of our nervous system which taps into the source where
the richness of our life experience comes from and deep healing occurs. It assists
our innate healing abilities to do what they're intended to do: rejuvenate and replenish
us, give us creativity, inspiration, health and the desire to continue living in
a positive way along with others in our society.
New music is bringing forth necessary changes in our self on both physical and
mental levels to be able to live harmoniously in our times and in times to come.
We need to listen to and be in touch with the music of our times.
