Tithing-The Spirit Of The Law

We have laws to govern these bodies; like traffic lights, when we can go with our car and when to stop. Customs for how we must dress in public, so no one is offended. We cannot steal that which belongs to someone else.

These are laws that are made to protect the life and property of people. There are also laws to protect people in business, so their investment is insured, and no ones name is slandered without good cause.

Some of these laws are man-made, they are social conventions. Others are God-made and are designed to protect our well being of prosperity. Long before these man-made laws were thought up, even long before Jesus walked the earth, there was a spiritual law, which oftentimes in this day and age goes unmentioned or is conveniently forgottenÉ the Law of Tithing.

Way back in time, people did not have the worries and distractions and stress of our modern times. This allowed them to be more in contact with the Supreme Being. Many peoples talked to Him and listened and followed His instructions. This was their beacon in the dark, so to speak, their guiding force in their life.

In return, the Supreme Being wanted people to give back to Him 10% to 30% of all that they profited on this earth. This is tithing.

The people found that they would prosper abundantly, when they tithed. But, also to tithe joyously. Their attitude was most important.

Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, justice, mercy, and faith; these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone. - Matthew 23:23

The leaders of the people put on a show when they tithed. But, they did not live the life of service to the people that the Supreme Being had in mind. They were more concerned with their own gain than helping the people realize that the Supreme Being was within them.

When a person awakens to the Supreme Being's presence inside themselves they would be so happy to see that He is with them, as them. They would joyfully allow the Supreme Being to tithe through them. As everything comes from Him anyway, they could see that it was fun and profitable to let Him give to Himself and also receive abundantly, by using their body.

When people would want to start Tithing, they would begin by taking an inventory of all that they had, animals, grains, clothing, oils, gold, silver, everything. They would take 10% to 30% of this value and give it to the priests. This is the First Fruits. This is the start, like buying chips in a poker game.

And as soon as the commandment came abroad, the children of Israel brought in abundance the first fruits of grain, wine, and oil, and honey, and of all the increase of the field; and the tithe of all things brought they in abundantly. - 2 Chronicles 31:5

Then at regular times, people would give 10% minimum to 30% maximum of all that they had acquired, back to the Supreme Being, through the priests. The 30% maximum was put on so that those people who would give away all they had, would not, and would still have something left to live on and continue to prosper.

It was also a way of providing for the priesthood, as it was their job to collect the tithes. These took care of their needs, and also the poor who had no food to eat.

And, behold, I have given the children of Levi all the tenth in Israel for an inheritance, for their service which they serve, even the service of the tabernacle of the congregation. - Numbers 18:21

For the people who are not sure about tithing, there is one place in the Bible in which the Supreme Being says, go ahead and test what I say is true.

Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be food in mine house, and test me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open for you the windows of heaven, and pour out for you a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it. - Malachi 3:10

The Supreme Being knows that not everyone will Tithe, but only those who are connected to Him will have the faith to know it is the right thing to do, and they will do so gladly.
